I have successfully used the utside option in Maximus running
under OS/2. I believe you understand the security risks that go with this
command....
Let's see.... in menu.ctl, I have to enable the following to get the
Outside command to work (local console and remote users are two seperate
options)...
===%%===
% This tells Maximus that you want to execute an external
% program (in this case, COMMAND.COM) when the `O' menu option
% is selected. Other options are available, such as `Xtern_Dos'
% (which can run .BAT or .CMD files) and `Xtern_Erlvl'
% (which completely unloads Maximus from memory).
%
% Also, when specifying the command/errorlevel to execute,
% don't forget to use underscores instead of spaces!
%
% Examples:
%
% Xtern_Run C:\Max\Bonk_/XN Sysop "Nodelist editor"
% Xtern_Dos D:\Path\Runme.Bat Transient "Run XYZ program"
% Xtern_Erlvl 45_Ongame.Bat Demoted "On-line Games"
%
% If you're running 4DOS, replace the following
% "Command.Com" with "4Dos.Com".
%
% OS/2 users should use the following statements instead:
%
UsrRemote Xtern_Run maxpipe.exe_%p_cmd.exe Sysop "OS shell"
UsrLocal Xtern_Run cmd.exe Sysop "OS shell"
===%%===
Since the UsrRemote line uses maxpipe in order to spawn the command shell,
I'd have to look up what I needed to get maxpipe.exe running. I do
remember there were some issues with that, but it was so long ago, I don't
remember what I did to get that working....
I can tell you I have had it working via remote connections.....
I have maxpipe.exe in the same dirwctory as the rest of the bbs
executables, with a date of Jan. 1, 1999. I may have used some Binkley
documentation to get maxpipe working.
I do have the MAXIMUS environment variable set up in CONFIG.SYS.
I also have the following note about maxcomm.dll, but I'm not sure if this
is related to your issue:
===%%===
The file MAXCOMM.DLL needs to be in :\OS2\DLL directory so that
Binkley can find it. Also needs to be the same version as in the :\MAX
directory.

===%%===
Good luck.....
Take care.....
