I find the phone worthwhile because I can call out of country at no extra
cost; something I can't do with my cell.  I have a friend or two in Canada
and one of them is in Whitehorse, YT.  I've known him, although we've not
met, since 1984.

ROTFL!  They do have a directive, it seems, to keep their reliable
customers and that's good business.

Sounds just like them.  Whomever(tm) you were speaking to obviously had to
get permission from a higher-up.
