I imagine so.  All I know was what I saw going on between educational
(research mostly) and gov't institutions.  ftp was my thing back then but
had to use email to coordinate some transfers of raw data to/from tape,
mostly from Switzerland.  I have yet to see anything better than that for
moving information around, nevermind the tapes.

Speaking of which, my neighbour just bought another Dell the other day with
a half decent scsi tape drive and was curious about that.  I can't seem to
escape no matter how hard I try.  :-/
