I just discovered a post on a newsgroup and I wanted to post it here. I found that on a Gnome terminal, if you type echo -e "\033(U" and hit enter, I am able to see full on Ansi color and IBM extended characters. For some reason this does not work in xterm or the Kde Konsole. I am very happy to see Ansi art again after all these years! :) enjoy!
