Did you initialize the user database with the initial install? [Run as
part of the initial install script, if successful. Also something like
'bin/max -C' if I remember the command line switches correctly. WARNING:
The switch I am thinking of will re-create the user database -- deleting

Did you compile any mex code? Compiled mex code will cause maax to abort.

Did you type any of the control keys that get interpreted as a signal?

Are you trying to save a message using control-Z? If so, in some ways of
running max, that will get interpreted by the command processor and sent as
a signal to max instead of being sent as control-Z. If you are at a
command line, type 'fg' (without the quotes, for foreground) and see if you
are back in your edit session. Then you need to 'save' using one of the
other key stroke sequences. I believe a control-K followed by a lower case
d will save the message. There is a way to bring up help to show what max
accepts for various commands (and there are usually two or three ways of
entering a command). Unfortunately, we haven't got the signal traps
properly handled (i.e. turn of signal interpretation of various keys, like
control-C and control-Z) yet.

Take care.....
