Not into looking at the former,  it's got too many assumptions built in. 
Never heard of the other one.  Then there's also bink/max/squish which was
finally ported a while back.  And I dunno about binkd either.  Can you
email me some URLs?

There's some perl stuff in there too.  I'll email you a copy since it's
sitting on the other machine,  once I can get my connection working again,
it seems to be a bit upset about having lost power earlier today,  and I've
gotta figure out what's going on...
