Hello Ed,

 EK> Snip..

EK>>> However I opened up Fidonews to all.

LL>> Fidonews should never have been closed to anyone.

EK> I rember a while back a request from my uplink to disable write access to
 EK> it,

That is about the stupidest comment, if not the stupidest, made
by a sysop I have ever read in the annals of fidonet.

You are telling me that you (a fidonet sysop) received a request
from your uplink (another fidonet sysop) to disable write access
to a fidonet echo in which the rules of the echo clearly state -

                           -=-

Availability:

Every sysop is encouraged to make this echo available to any
user, that's interested in reading and writing in it.

Moderator: Odin (Bj”rn Felten)

Fidonews Editor, 2:2/2, Moderator

Rules for the Fidonews Echo
Revised: 2004-05-31

                           -=-

Yes, that's right. Any user. Sysop and non-sysop alike.
Read and write access.

EK> and if i recall correctly it was because some were using my guest account
to
EK> cause problems within the conference.

Your uplink told you this? And you believed him? My gosh,
you must be the most incompetent sysop in fidonet! Or the most
stupid! Why would anybody bother to use your `guest account' in
order to post messages in an echo in which the moderator allows
read and write access for all?

Since your uplink was not Bj”rn Felten (current editor/moderator
of the FIDONEWS, appointed by the previous editor/moderator, Frank
Vest), and since Bj”rn Felten has never asked you to do such an
outlandish thing (which would be against his own stated rules of
the echo), my guess is that your uplink made it all up. Unless
you did, making it a very tall tale.

(Such antics did not keep me [and others] from posting messages in
the FIDONEWS, as we merely found new and better sandboxes to play in)

EK> Can't we all just get along?

Are you kiddin' me? And do away with fight-o-net? Things
just wouldn't be the same!
