What Charles seems to forget in many of his comments, is that no everyone has
the pleasure of living somewhere where the rents are cheap, and wages are
reasonable.
It's an economic reality that the more people you crowd into a small area,
he
higher the cost of living and the lower the pay scale is, based on that cost
of living. As an example, here in San Diego a couple of years ago, they did
a survey on the cost of living. It was estimated that a single parent with
two children needed to earn approximately $1200-1300 a month after taxes, to
survive. With approximaltey 2 million people in the metro area, and little
industry, wages aren't all that high, (hovering around $9-10 an hour
verage).
