While I certainly don't dispute that, those old Acoustic amps he used had a 
lot to do with it.  I've played several Acoustic amps and they all seem to 
have Jacotone built into them.  I'm sure he could have used any amp to get 
that sound (I get semi-convincing Jacotone out of my Ampeg SVT-III Pro), but 
those Acoustic amps sure do make it easy.  Plus turning the neck pickup down 
a little bit contributes.
