-> I am some of the time.
Sees as if far too many "bills" come in the mail to me too. If you ever
forget who you are, just look in the mirror and notice that you are the
guy that a lot of us here like and wish all the best for.
-> I nothiced something on my fairly new Univega 21 speed mountain bike
-> the other day. The largest front chain ring looks like there are a
-> couple of bent chain lugs (a am not sure the proper names for them)
-> and a couple of small cracks. I am not sure how I got
If they are in a regular pattern, like ever 3rd or 5th, for instance, I
would say that they are there deilibrately for shifing aid. I take it
the "lugs" are the teeth that the chain goes into? Even if you miss a
few teeth, especially on the large ring, it is no big deal as there will
still be enough to hold the chain in place. Assuming your large ring is
52 teeth then the chain wraps around half the ring, or 26 or 27 teeth.
Of course if the actual structure of the chainring is suspect then you
ought to replace it lest you have a catastrophic failure. However, even
then, it would just throw your chain, not like throwing the chain on the
rear into the spokes, possibly making you fall off the bike. Obviously I
haven't seen it, so I can say no more.
Just get well soon so you can get back on that bike and enjoy it. I am
now doing just that myself after over a month in a sling after a
shoulder dislocation.
