Not necessarily. The heat stress could be causing timing problems that
only show up when you are running and operating system that multitasks,
such as OS/2.
Many hardware defects are more likely to be revealed by OS/2 than DOS.
For example, OS/2 will show up faulty CPU cache hardware much more
quickly than DOS, since OS/2 switches register contexts on a regular
basis (and thus causes the cache to be invalidated), whereas DOS
doesn't.
Thus faulty cache hardware (where cache invalidation doesn't work)
is more likely to cause visible problems under OS/2.
So saying that something works under DOS has no weight at all, I'm
afraid. The most telling piece of evidence is still that when your PC
is cool, OS/2 runs fine. And that points directly to a hardware heating
problem.
