-> I personally DO NOT LIKE them AT ALL.
-> I'm kind of partial to Chapparral and Houston Tracker. Drakes are
-> good too...there's a saying that goes .."Drakes don't break".
-> Bottom line though is what you can spend/afford. If there's a deal
-> you can't pass up (like for free if it's a Uniden) well then that's
->      another story.
-> If you're buying used equipment try to see it in operation first.
->      In particular...
-> Move the dish from one end of the arc to the other.
->                 Does it travel smoothly?
-> Does it go and come back accurately?
-> Does the Acutator arm sound like it's OK ?
-> Look at odd and even channels on a couple of satellites.
->                 Are the picture clear?
-> Are the pictures correct in color and sync ?
-> If the VC2 Plus decoder is authorized does it decode?
-> Is the sound clear (VC2 Plus and regular audio) ?
-> Is there delay in changing from odd to even channels?
-> Does the equipment appear to be in good physical shape?
-> These are just a few things to consider.
-> Also if the dish is a large one you'll have to transport it and
-> no physical stress should be exerted on the dish (i.e. don't TIE
-> it DOWN). I wouldn't reccommend disassembling it unless you have
-> the original DISH assembly instructions, and even then I
-> wouldn't take it apart. Basically sliding the dish UP off of
-> the mounting pole means little worries except for
-> transportation.
-> If you have any other questions just ask...

Thanks David
These are things that I need and have needed to hear but no one seems
willing to give advice.
I'm trying to sell my wife on this idea also, so the first priority for
both of us right now is total cost (including the programming package)
My friend tells me of lots of good deals that come across Satellite
selling channels on his Satellite system, but that's the same old
problem of "You have to have one to get one." I'm looking to spend no
more than $1500 but I am not sure what that will get me.
What kind of programming do you use?
