This might seem like a case of "locking the barn door...", but I'm quite
interested in any new discoveries about this disease in the past couple of
years.
In November of 1993, our 21-year-old daughter, who seemed quite healthy as of
that summer, died of this disease. She had a varitey of symptomes, but the
doctors treated each symptom individually, rather than as a systemic problem.
By the time she was admitted to the hospital, for "the flu", to be rehydrated
overnight, it was too late. She lived in the ICU for nearly six weeks.
We agreed to (actually requested) an autopsy, in hope that it would add to
the fund of information and perhaps help others in the future.
Naturally, we miss her terribly and we pray that this horrible malady is
wiped out soon. I would appreciate any up-to-date information or comments.
(We do not blame the doctor, even though several people suggested that we sue
for malpractice, since he didn't recognize the disease. That is nonsense. He
is human, like all of us. His knowledge is finite. We have been led to
understand that there are only about 25 cases a year in the U.S.. He had
never seen a case and the hospital had never seen a case. How can we blame
him?)
Thanks for your help.
