It's different alright.
Once you break through the intimidation factor it rock and rolls
however.

I got serious about Linux only after a neurological event
some months ago as a means of rehabiltation.
Before I was a poser.

If you need or desire assistence do not hesitate to ask but ask quickly
as mental defect is progressive.

One thing out front, google is your friend ask it many questions.

Suffering from memory loss moment to moment I keep files on my
local hard drive to remind myself.

Once you get to the command line things really begin to snap.
You can go from stumped to answers but using F-7 to go back to
the GUI desktop to inquire of google.

Everyone starts out stumped by Linux so all the answers
to your questions are already out there on the internet
just awaiting you frame the right keyword question in google.

Framing the keywords correctly is a matter of practice, learn by
doing.
Same with Linux.
Dive in.

Suggest Knoppix for beginner as it's setup so as to lend
permissions in a somewhat more user frienly manner in how
it allows you access to prividges.

Slackware is where it's at however IMHO.

It's a matter of learning how to learn.
Poser for years I learned all I needed to know in a couple of months.

Several helpful people in Linux echo facilitated
my rapid ascent to understanding.

Now contemplating vaporizing my Linux installation so
I can reinstall and configure it as a mental exercise.
I hope this reply gives you some useful ideas.
