You may want to insert a Frame around the graphic object.
Usually when I insert a picture, or I paste a graphic from the 
clipboard, the object arrives in my Word document with eight 
square black handles on it. We say that the imported object is 
Selected. 
While it is selected, choose Insert Frame.
Once a Frame is placed around the object, the scaling, size and 
position can be modified to suit your requirements. Double-
clicking on the Frame should bring up the Frame Modify dialogue 
box.
