Hello August.

Long time, no chat. How are you?

14 Jan 03 18:28, you wrote to me:

AA> "Let It Be" (1970) is a documetary produced by United Artists/Apple

Well, I'm wrong about "never," but doing a little reading on
www.amazon.com, I'm not the only person who had been under the impression
that "Let It Be" hadn't been released to video. It looks like
the thing was issued on VHS and Beta way, way, way back in 1981, and has
been rather scarce since then (remember how, in the early days of the CD,
Beatles CDs were very hard to find unless you wanted to spend a lot of
money on Japanese imports). You're lucky in that you're able to find the
thing as a rental, because, believe me, I have scoured video stores in
several states over the years, looking for this one. Maybe it's a Canadian
thing: I've noticed, in my forays into Windsor and Toronto, that certain
movies and music titles are much more available on your side of the border
than mine. Wish I could remember the movie, but the wife bought something
in Windsor in November that she couldn't buy here, and I got something from
Cream a few years ago that I couldn't find here.

AA> Something that resembles it seems to be listed at www.musiccdvideo.com

I've got a note out to them. Some of the stuff I saw referenced on
www.amazon.com indicates that this movie has been bootlegged. I got burned
by this with "The Kids Are Alright" on VHS ten years ago (got an
official looking release, but everything was mono), and would rather wait
for the real thing (if this is the real thing, I'll buy it) than get a lame
knockoff.

I was also rather surprised to read that McCartney is overseeing the
release of "Get Back," which, to simplify, is the "Let It
Be" album produced by George Martin, free of a lot of the mods that
Phil Spector added when they let him loose on the tapes. Frankly, I didn't
care for the album until I heard the bootleg I referenced, and something
tells me that I'll enjoy the original version much, much more than what I
grew up with. :-)
