The comparison you make is bogus. It's not your fault. The article =
Joe referenced is misleading and in the case of the prices outright = wrong.
If someone were to make the effort to visit the HP India site they =
would find that the actual prices for the Pentium 4 systems are 38,990 =
(http://www.compaq.co.in/store/storeModel.asp?familyid=3D205) and 30,990 =
(http://www.compaq.co.in/store/storeModel.asp?familyid=3D215) exclusive =
of tax and freight. Particularly noteworthy is that HP asserts=20
Prices mentioned below are exclusive of Monitor and all Presario =
machines have to be bought along with Presario Monitors.=20 The prices for
the two options for monitor are 10,000 and 13,000.
Also particularly noteworthy is that not only does the system that =
includes Windows also include Microsoft Works, Microsoft Money, and =
Norton Anti-Virus, it also includes a printer. The Linux system comes =
with none of this.
There are Athlon systems described at =
http://www.compaq.co.in/store/storeModel.asp?familyid=3D217 and =
http://www.compaq.co.in/compaqD315 then =
http://www.compaq.co.in/HPepp/product_list.asp. Here the price of the =
system with Windows is 36,990 and the price with Linux is 33,990. =
3,000 rupees is about US$62.50. Not a bad price for Windows XP Home = Edition.

How do you get 25%?
(39,990 - 30,990) / 30,990 =3D 29%
Anyway, is the operating system the only thing different between the =
two
systems?
