Thank you for retyping "High Flight" and Reagan's speech. He was
one great
communicator. And, y'know, I think George Dubya did a good job and really
meant the stuff that he said, even if Peggy Noonan or whoever wrote it--I
have no doubt that he's a Christian believer and that he really means well,
even if you have to wonder about some of those other decisions he makes
sometimes . . . I thought he really did look sad and was trying to keep
himself together when he was talking. After he spoke on the phone to the
families, he had to go into the private room to get himself composed. He
couldn't sob in front of the ever-present press, cameras, aides, and so
forth. If it wasn't written by Peggy, it was some other eloquent
speechifyer or sermonizer who said they'd been called home, and I thought
it was done with class. One thing I'll say, though, is that the job of
President really ages someone. It is taking its toll on this one just the
way it did on the last one (who turned gray before our eyes) and on Big
George. They really age quickly when these awful things happen and they
have to stand up there and be a Dad for the entire nation, who's always
looking at them for comfort and reassurance. I do NOT think I could do
that. I would retreat into my shell. I have that artistic temperament. I
kind of sit in awe of someone who can be in front of that camera and
scrutiny 24/7 and have any kind of way to cope with it.

 >Well, I feel that way about the chronic political shots.

Oh, yeah. It gets old. I mean, we can read the editorial page if we want
to commune with that. Message received on this end of the
datatube--wilco. (Will Comply)

And I promise not to even criticize Harry Potter and keep the peace,
at least for a while.

Didja hear that eBay pulled an auction of . . . wait for it . . . yes,
shuttle debris. Some little idiot was auctioning off a piece of the
skyfall, or claimed he/she was (it could have been a hoax, of
course.) Sheesh! There's a con artist or opportunist out there every
minute, it seems. It could make you crazy if you didn't know there were a
hundred good people with pure hearts for every one of the zitheads.
