Yes, the camera really should be mounted to the KE head so that it moves
with the KE.  The biggest problem after that is having a lens that
vignettes the image towards the edge.  This, of course, makes the image
dimmer at the edge and if the mirror isn't centered in the field, the one
side further from the center will be actually brighter than it shows in the
camera (the vignetting of the image makes it necessary for the edge to be
brighter in fact to keep the same shade of gray acorss the screen) and thus
your readings will be off as the balance between the two sides will be off
from where it needs to be.
