Agreed. However in the case of posting shell scripts, c code and the such, the
above idea will increase the byte size of messages - 7 bytes per tab in the
case here although that can be redefined. I am not sure how important that
will end up being but something to consider if indeed it is important.

Weird. I have always believed that quoting should be avoided whenever
possible.
