IDE is a poor choice for mirroring. If you have to use IDE, make sure that
the drives are on separate channels. If not, you are wasting a 4gig drive.
The reason being is that if the master goes down, so does the slave.

You are much better off using SCSI as you can mirror the drives easier and if
one fails on the chain, the other one can pick up the slack.
