IME under Linux, changing the mgetty config without setserial often results
is just that kind of garble.  Just like in the old DOS days: you had to
lock your BBS software and the FOSSIL to the same rate or it wouldn't work.
 Generally once I setserial'ed it to 38400 or higher, it'll work with
mgetty at any speed though.  Maybe it defaults to 2400 or something; enough
for command sequences but not data.
