Other then on a modem, no, but I have heard that it is supposed to do that.
 minicom works great on a modem though.  On the plus side, all the options
I mentioned will work no matter what the connection or OS in many cases.

I've used kermit to download data from a proton precession magnetometer
onto a Sparc station before.  Lets see Windows or OS/2 do that!  ;-)
