I just started using 3.x about a week or so ago.  In fact other then a
kernel for this partition the Maximus source is the only thing I've
compiled with it.  I am actually suprised that 2.95.3 couldn't handle it. 
Perhaps an upgrade of binutils?  I might give that a try but I am really
starting to wonder.  I'd be inclined to think that whatever is causing the
break really ought to be looked at as 2.95.3 is sitting on most of the
Linux boxes these days.  It should work.
