Ah hah! When you typed this you reminded me. I did in fact add something to
this effect to my /etc/profile:
echo -e "\033%@" && echo -e "\033(U"
Save that, re-login, and try first with default8x16 as it definitely works with
that one. I use that in combination with ter-i14b and it works great.
