>>JB> When I was a child, Tomorrowland was right on target! I think it's
>>JB> a good idea to turn it into a sort of H G W vision of the future.
>>JB> That'll never be outdated!
>KB> It always was a fantasy view of the future. Walt intended to show what
>KB> could be done, but really it was never designed to say "this is how the
>KB> real future will be". I miss the old TL, but I expect the new one will
>KB> be great. DL is constantly changing. I miss the old attractions
>KB> terribly and love the new ones tremendously. Changes also helps us to
>KB> keep coming back time and time again.
>KB> The Imagineers were brilliant with DL. They designed it so that you
>KB> really can leave the outside world behind. From the moment you walk
>KB> through the front gate you are surrounded by DISNEY. It is everywhere.
>KB> There are characters and buildings and parades, rides and shows. You
>KB> forget that you are right smack dab in the middle of an major American
>KB> city. Instead, you have been whisked off to a new land - a Disney land.
>KB> They keep the charm by making sure nothing from the outside world is
>KB> visible from inside the park. Everything your senses picks up is a
>KB> Disney delight. The music, the smells, the sounds, the atmosphere, the
>KB> wonderment - the whole thing.
I couldn't agree with you more about the changes making it all the more
worthwhile to keep returning to Disneyland, in my case, to Magic Kingdom.
What Disney Imagineers did when creating MK/DL was, as you say, brilliant, by
separating the 'kingdoms' so completely. You walk through between any two
and it's magically and instantly changed! One moment you're in Adventure
land, and the next it's Frontier Land! At WDW, Epcot and D-MGM Studios
aren't quite as good with separating their areas. But, I think the
separation at MK/DL must have been due to space requirements with buildings
taking up much more of the park land than they do at Epcot/D-MGM Studios. I
think they're expanding MK's Mickyland with a Toontown area, but not sure
about it. It'll be fun to see all the new stuff come November we get to go
again!
