It would probably depend on how the TSR and the terminal program were
designed. If the terminal used interrupts for communications and the TSR
didn't disable them for long, then things should be ok.
When a character is received, it generates an interrupt which goes back to
the terminal. The terminal would then hopefully save the byte to disk and
then exit. The computer would be switching back and forth between the
erminal
and the TSR.
As an example, I tried out a DOS TSR terminal program that received files
int the background. So, as I'm typing now, this TSR would be downloading a
file.
On the other hand, the TSR might disable the interrupts or in someway shut
everything down. For example, if I load the VSAFE TSR and pop it up, my
blinky program stops.
