Re: job hunting (was Re: government efficiency) By: Kurt Weiske to Damon A. Getsman on Tue Dec 29 2015 08:34:29 KW> I'd suggest tailoring your resume for the job - the last time I was job KW> searching I made a couple of dozen resumes, each tailored for a company or KW> type of job. I've got 4 right now for the different types of work that I'm applying for. I've found a bit of a need to branch out beyond that, but haven't gotten down to it just yet. My problem is really not so much what's on the resume, though, as it is what comes out of my mouth when I'm on the spot, I think. KW> A chronological resume may not be the one you want to show them. A KW> functional resume can be tailored to the employer or type of job and not KW> mention dates/roles. Yeah I ditched the chronological format awhile ago. I've got a set that are built to be much more tailored, the format varies a bit between the ones that I show foodservice folks and the ones that I show to technical folks, but they both obfuscate the dates pretty well to avoid those gaps working in other industries. I think I'm going to spend a week putting in tech resumes so that I can try to get more interviews where I don't have to worry about the stress of obfuscating the conversation away from what I've been doing with my life other than greasy cooking and dishwashing. That doesn't really help me learn to deal with the office stress in the field itself, but it helps me in the short term keep from having to deal with misleading. God the mental blockages. -D === Borg Burgers: We do it our way; your way is irrelevant. --- SBBSecho 2.27-OpenBSD* Origin: telnet://tinfoil.synchro.net (1:340/200) SEEN-BY: 14/5 19/33 34/999 90/1 116/18 120/331 123/500 128/187 140/1 218/700 SEEN-BY: 222/2 226/0 160 230/150 240/1120 249/303 261/38 100 266/404 267/155 SEEN-BY: 280/1027 282/1031 1056 292/907 908 320/119 219 340/400 393/68 396/45 SEEN-BY: 633/267 280 640/384 712/620 848 770/1 801/161 2320/105 @PATH: 340/200 400 261/38 712/848 633/267 |
