Made me want to say "just get me in front of your client, let's let them make
the choice".

There are good ones out there, though -- as a hiring manager I dealt with a few
recruiters who Got It. One did the most amazing job of hiring cohesive
departments - between he and the director of IT, they hired the most
cooperative, collaborative, effective IT department I'd worked in. As soon as
he was promoted to the parent company after an acquisition, a technical
resource who was not hired as a people manager took over, brought in a couple
of buddies, and ruined the vibe.
