On 03/30/09, Jeff Snyder quoted John Massey: Obama's Report Card.

JS> Hello again Ross. You made some interesting points, but I still tend to
JS> think that regardless of which system is used, EC or DPV, there are
JS> always going to be winners and losers.
JM>
JM> Lets hope so.

Just to clarify, when I said "winners and losers", I wasn't
referring to the
candidates themselves; I was referring to the people, the voters. In other
words, with the current EC, the vast majority of people in the USA lose to the
whims of a small group of powerful elitists. With DPV, the big states will
beat up the smaller states due to their sheer numbers, so those smaller states
lose. That's why I said that it is really a no-win situation for some people.

JS> As I said earlier, it is always Big Money that wins the election, and
JS> with Obama we have seen it again. I was amazed, but pleased, to see
JS> Obama destroy the Clinton political machine.
JM>
JM> He hasn't done any such thing.

I beg to differ. The Clintons were so confident of winning the nomination,
that they didn't even see Obama's financial/advertising blitzkrieg coming.
They erroneously assumed they had enough money to knock Obama off of his
horse, but they were terribly wrong. I was quite happy to see Hillary humbled,
even if I don't agree with some of Obama's positions on the issues. That is
what I meant when I said that Obama destroyed the Clinton's political machine.
Maybe Obama didn't destroy it all the way obviously, but he destroyed it
enough to win the nomination and "steal" the vote.

JM> Why do you think that? If people believe that Votes are not counted now
JM> what makes you think they will be more accurately counted just because
JM> there is direct election?

Because while I am a skeptic about a lot of things, particularly when it comes
to politics, I still like to mix in a little optimism. Wishful thinking?
Perhaps.
