My brother should never be allowed to touch a computer ever......"keen
but incompetant" is the best description.

OK..... Scenario is:

Machine:
(A) My father's.....
(B) Spec's:

iBook
600 mhz
256 mb RAM
18.6 gb IBM hdd
OSX 10.1.2
DVD/CR/RW drive
As far as I can tell no users as no login......

Main Problem.....

My Brother has filled the hdd with movies taken with my dad's DigiVidCam.

Required Solution:

Burn em to CD using either
1)Built in CD/RW + Mac tools on Laptop 2) CDRW on Win2K box + Win2k tools
3) CDRW on linux box + Linux tools
4) Bizarre combo of all of them

Secondary Problem....

It's a f**king MAC...so

I've set up TCP & alles ist in ordnung. can get to net & see other
machines (via inet explorer). Other machines can ping it (bizarrely I've
already started ref'ing to it as "her")

A) How do I share / login remotely given AFAICS there are no users set
up......I've tried turning on sharing & "Allow remote login"
but connections are refused via both telnet & smb from both linux &
win2K...ah sorted wrt remote login.....it runs sshd..neat (only found it
coz I found the term & thus found it has top on board...

B) My mate who has a Mac but given the time of week is quite rightly out
pubbing...has the terminal on his dock thingy. My father has the "as
it came in the box" look...so where the œ$%^ is the œ$%^ing
terminal..? I know this thing is BSD but I can't get in........

Ahhh found it via "Search all help"...however now I can only open
the f**king thing via help....so (i) where do I find it w/o going through
help & (b) how do I add apps onto the dock thingy?...OK found it in the
"Utilities folder...." AAARRRRGGGG NOW I remember why ahhhh
f**king hate Macs......I should be down t'pub not messing with this
ponytail pose mobile...

OK

I can login via ssh & I've set myself up as an admin. Something bizarre
about changing keychains but...right now I can ssh in.

 So questions

A) How do I do smb filesharing?
B) How do I add a terminal to the dock? C) How do I logout so I can login
as me? At the mo I will keep the autologin bit (at startup) on as otherwise
my dad will get veeeerrrry confused & claim I've "buggered up his
machine" (which I can live without). D) How do I shutdown w/o just
pushing the shutdown button or is that how you are supposed to shut down an
iBook? E) When the Mac tells me a file is a "iMovie DV File" is
it a std mpeg or something weird & apple only?
F) What's the best thing to turn a heap of the above "DV File"
clips into a CD (prob dvix 5 coz no DVD burners around & max size of
media = 700mb)?
