DS->A friend (and programmer) of mine told me a few days back that a virus

  ->drive to step beyond it's normal limits, jamming the stepper arm and thus
  ->making the drive unusable.
In your BIOS you can set the IDE drive to park the are beyond the it's
limits. This does not "jam" the arm. This might not be true of older
drives, though.
