This information is incorrect. Microsoft desperately *wants*
everyone, especially the DOJ, to think that. But it simply isn't
true. The newstory I read involved uninstalling IE after it had
been installed. This is residue of inefficient programming, not
OS requirements.
The newest version of Win95 is the SR-2 version used by OEMs.
Even with this version if you choose "custom" install rather than
automatic install you can pick and choose what is installed ALONG
WITH Windows 95. You can leave off IE, Microsoft Network,
E-mail, Fax, and networking. All of these programs use *shared*
resources and is the source of Microsoft's claim that IE is part
of the OS. None of them are part of Windows itself. If they
were, Windows wouldn't run without them installed and it will
most assuredly *will* run without them.
Microsoft is taking a page from Billy-Bob and *chooses* to
re-define words so only they know the meanings. If everyone else
misinterprets their words; it's not their fault. It's the same
as saying "investments in America" instead of taxes or defining
anyone who earns more than $30,000/yr as "rich." It's what
happens when you turn company operations over to lawyers.
