Yes, I had this problem too! It was if the 2940 just "lost" the drives.
1) This happened when ArcServe was doing a backup. (check your logs)
   I changed the 2940 bios it should not be set to >2gig for Netware.
    NOTE: After the change I had to boot the server from floppy. 
3) I replaced the drives with faster more current baracudda's.
    NOTE: I mirrored the new drives with the old ones first.
4) Be sure and check the termination on the drives and controller!
5) Be sure to check to make sure you do not have any IRQ conflicts.
    NOTE: booting from floppy was not needed from dos w/new drives.
Problem solved!
