subject: Files areas

Hello Bob,

AI> I used to use AMU to create my allfiles list, there
AI> is no nix version of AMU so I will need to find
AI> another method, anyone else have a way of doing this?

BS> I banged something together here in perl for building
BS> my AllFiles list for my BBBS system. I'm sure that I
BS> could pretty easily modify the script to work for max,
BS> but I'll need to know the "specs" for the area list
BS> configuration files that identify the areas to be
 BS> included in the list.

I lost a hard drive a couple days ago so I've lost my linux system
for the time being. I don't know anything about perl. Is there
a perl interpreter for Windows?? I think I have seen something like
that but never gave it a look, I should do that.

AI> It would be a bonus if I could somehow get an html
 AI> index also.

BS> That should be easy enough to add to the script. I've
BS> already got it set up to produce separate lists for
BS> each area for the people accessing the files via FTP.
BS> Again, I'll just need to know what sort of output you'd
BS> like to see, and what input / configuration files it
BS> needs to be able to process.

If it could be done I'd like a all/newfiles list that looks like
the one I have now (made by AMU). At the moment, I don't have
any files at all in the filebase, but in a week or so I'll post
a short example of the list.

BS> The system here carries the full FileGate distribution
BS> (plus some other old files), to the tune of 1070 areas
BS> and 66,905 files (27,596 Mb). The AllFiles list itself
BS> is over 14 Mb in size, so the script has so far been
BS> able to handle the big numbers.

Wow, that is quite an archive, I must logon.. :)

BS> I assume that you'd be willing to test it and help sort
BS> out the bugs and features?

Sure, I love messing with these things.. If there is a perl
interpreter for windows it would it would be helpful to a wide
rage of folks..

 Ttyl :-),
         Al
