Not here.  I have a partition that is VGA16 text mode (no framebuffers) and
it is fine.

Hmmmm.  I just have Linux so it is tough for me to say whether or not
something will work on anything else.  The Windows users around here don't
have compilers so I would have to have a crosscompiler for other OS's and
even if I did there still might be  a problem convincing anyone to test a
BBS on their box.  I probably could convince a few to log into a BBS but
that doesn't help test compatibility of source code.
