Hey Alan!
AI> I was looking at it at one time and didn't realise that was what
AI> I needed..
Yep. iconv is definetly a keeper no matter what encoding your terminal is ...
although it *should* be utf-8 if you are greedy like me and want it ALL!
:::evil grin:::
For the record, I saw a screenshot ages ago of a xterm displaying utf-8 math
characters (eg integral sign and the such) and that is what originally inspired
me to pursue utf-8 capablilities. I don't have math consolefonts but maybe
someday if and when I get really bored.
AI> I think they are ansi templates I can covert to utf-8.
Gotcha. Yes those would need to be converted before displaying but that also
could be done on the fly rather than converting it on the disk. That way other
cp437 users can still use it. On your console try something like this;
iconv -f cp437 -t utf8 whatever.ans
and it should display fine as long as it there are no ansi escape sequences
that expect your display to be anything other than 80x24 which can and does
happen. Mind you if your display is 80x24 then it shouldn't be an issue.
Life is good,
Maurice
... Don't cry for me I have vi.
