  Here is a version of a popular Tex-Mex pie here in the US
MMMMM----- Recipe via Meal-Master (tm) v8.05
 
      Title: Tamale Pie
 Categories: Mexican, Hamburger, Bake, Pie, Beef
      Yield: 1 servings
 
  1 1/2 c  Cold water
  1 1/2 c  Yellow cornmeal
  1 1/2 ts Salt
      2 c  Boiling water
      1 lb Ground beef
      1    Clove garlic,minced
    1/2 c  Onion,chopped
    1/2 c  Green pepper,chopped
      2 tb Flour
      1    Or more tsp. chili powder
      1    16 oz can tomatoes
      1    8 oz can tomato sauce
      1 c  Whole kernel corn,drained
    1/2 c  Ripe olives,chopped
  1 1/2 c  Cheddar,shredded
 
  Mix cold water and cornmeal.Stir well.Add 1/2 tsp. salt to boiling
  water.Add cornmeal mixture to boiling water,stirring constantly.
  Bring to a boil.Partially cover pan,cook slowly 7 minutes,stirring
  often to prevent sticking.(Be careful of bubbling;it will burn if
  splattered.)Let sit to settle.
  
  Line bottom and sides of greased 2 qt. casserole,iron skillet or
  baking dish with cooked mush.
  
  Cook beef,garlic,onion and green peppers or chilies until beef is no
  longer pink.Drain fat.Stir in flour,1 tsp. salt and chili powder. Add
  tomatoes;break up into chunks with spoon.Stir in tomato sauce,corn,
  olives.Mix well.
  
  Spoon into mush-lined dish.Cover with shredded cheese. Bake at 350
  degrees 40 to 45 minutes until hot and bubbly.Serves 6.
