Hello Jim:
=> Was the empty cowling faired over? My #1 son has told me of their patrols
off
=>
          Was this the Constellation question? If so, they put a dome
affair on the firewall to break a little air, and flew her home on 3.
=> Viet Cong that one engine of the P-3 was shut down to stretch fuel. They
flew
=>
          I had an interesting conversation with an Aurora F/E at the
Hamilton airshow. I had asked him about shutting down 2 engines during
their loiter time, and he told me it was only of marginal gain in most
cases. Apparently, pulling the power well back on all 4 engines is
almost as economical as FX-ing 2 and running the power up on the
remaining 2.
          The endurance king of ASW work in Maritime Command was the
Argus; The TC's could be pulled back until specific fuel consumption
was .38 pounds.
          Hence the 28+ hour unrefuelled endurance with all 4 grinders
running.
                                             Ken
