No reason to use metal. I am using a net bag made for holding sports balls.
It creates a mini-facet pattern with grooves at least 1/16" deep. I
then press on fine netting for microfacets. The mini-facets allow the
mirror to conform to shape quickly and the microfacets seem to increase the
polish action.

Hello all....

I have just been informed by Frank Ward that using wire lath to generate a
facet pattern on a pitch lap would more than likely generate a pattern of
scratches on the glass itself.

It would seem obvious that sharp metal and smooth glass do not mix....what
a dummy I am. Well, I guess you can tell I am new at this. Had I attempt
this and generated a nice diamond pattern of scratches on my nice smooth
mirror, I'd be cursing up a blue streak. Thanks, Frank, for pointing this
glaring fact out to me.

Dang....thought I had something there. It should have occurred to me why I
hadn't seen or heard of anyone using metal to press a lap. Frank also
mentioned that he would like very much to hear of my results once I
"tried"
this method. I have more than a sneaking suspicion that more than a few of
the ATM community would be hospitalized as a result of busting a gut from
laughing so hard.

Thanks again to all....

Bob Mazzullo
