No thank you, but I think I get your point.  That echo must look like crap in a
iso-8859-1 enviroment.  More reason to stick to utf-8 methinks and to hell with
8-bit encodings since it could be converted to utf-8 but iso-8859-1 isn't
likely if what fails between iso-8859-1 and cp437 is a healthy chunk of
characters deployed in bbs_ads which I am guessing it does.  utf-8  cp437
does work though not that it *really* matters any.
