Having  compared  the contents of this echo as reported from
JamNNPTd with those visible from Tommi Koivula's proper news
server,  I  began  to  suspect  JamNNTPd of removing part of
threading information stored in the References: header.

For example, the discussion titled "Line indents" is present
as  a single connteced hierarchical thread in Tommi's server
whereas in JanNNTPd it is torn into four such  threads,  the
three  posts that are wrongly without the References: header

On Tommi's newsserver, however, these posts do have  correct
References: .
