subject: Flat Response

I don't see that many big names in the audio business talking
about flat response and other such "outdated" thinking and goals. Just
bring on the doodads, gizmos, tweaks, technobabble and powered subs
and pounding sounds below 35 MHz and we shall proclaim it "Great
Music".
I have full range towers and enjoy them very much. But I once
heard a pair of ACI Sapphire bookshelfs set up perfectly, pushed by a
small
British integrated pre/amp and a $500 Marantz CD player, playing
a chamber music CD (cannot remember title etc.) and it was the
most beautiful thing I have ever heard in my life!!! But then again
I have always marched to a different drummer/violin, anyway.
I doubt many young people have ever paused long enough to
really listen to symphony music or anything so beautiful as a
stringed quartet, and realize it is possible to enjoy something
so uncool. Its' a shame, too. They are missing so much.
Unfortunately too, many audio manufacturers seemed headed
in the same direction.
Cheers, John
