David, yes we can receive DSS/Dishnet here in Bermuda. There is a large
installed base of users, well over 1,000. The 18" dish just about works but
is not viable. The 28" dishes work 99% of the time. A lot of folks are using
at least 1 metre dishes, some especially bars etc are using 1.2 metre. Mostly
made by channel master. The Channel Masters are a very polished fibregalss
product. The guys with 1.2's dont seem to lose the signal at all. A lot of
people are using Dishnet LNB's and Dishnet large dishes as the prices are
better than the DSS ones. (They are using DSS receivers). I am still using my
BUD, but I may have to move house so I may switch over. Planning regulations
are very strict here as are landlords who dont want BUDS on their property.
The island is litterally strewn with 8.5' Orbitrons with their button hooks
dangling like a limp you know what. 15 years ago we were swamped with BUDS
and now that Cable is here and the small dishes, no one is really interested.
My neighbour has hust moved out and left a complete satellite system behind.
he has moved into a condo where no BUDS are allowed. It is an 8.5 Orbitron
with 6 month old KU mesh. he advertised it in the paper and has been unable
to give it away. If you know anyone that wants a VCRS2 cheap and receiver let
me know. I will ship it to you. he would like to swap it for a DSS system.
there must be hundreds of receivers here not being used. I was thinking about
advertising to come and take them away and then ship them out of here!
Keep in touch.
Regards, Larry.
