Mystic itself doesn't support UTF-8 out of the box. So that's most likely where
your problem lies. As for reading/writing messages in UTF-8, you could easily
setup Golded with an external editor (nano or vim have been tested in this
realm so far, by myself and Maurice) which will not let you read UTF-8 in
Golded, but once you load the message up in the external editor it will display
perfectly. Writing in UTF-8 would obviously work as expected since you're using
an editor that supports UTF-8, of course.

Maurice has a great way of reading/writing FTN messages as well, although it
still seems a little to time consuming for my taste, but I'm following it and
hopefully get to witness some great enhancements. :)

I saw some recent messages by Kees that may have sparked my interest, too.. I
wonder if he's working on something behind the scenes? >:)

Regards,
Nick
