I do find disk I/O annoyingly slow on laptops. But then I find it
annoyingly slow on every Windows/IDE desktop I've ever owned. Doing more
than one I/O intensive operation at a time on a Windows machine is a joke -
coffee break time.

I've never been sure whether to blame this on the IDE architecture, Intel's
I/O subsystem, or Windows. It's seems clear however that improving this
hasn't been a Wintel priority. Since I don't own a SATA machine I don't
know whether there's any noticeable improvement due to SATA.
