Alvin...
Supra has released numerous messages in this echo about this very
 thing...
I've deleted most from my database but here is some info from the few
 I have left...
As for them not getting back to you... It is summer and people are
away on holidays so no need to be so suspicious, its not a conspiracy.

We sold that modem as a 28.8k unit, and we didn't think
ANY of them would go faster (Except the Sonic, which using
different hardware). By a fluke, the majority of the units
sold happened to work at 33.6k due to the parts supplied from
Rockwell, but it could just have easily turned out that only
the Sonic would support speeds above 28.8k.

Diamond Multimedia's Communications Division is pleased to announce our
plans
for a 33.6 Kbps upgrade program. All existing 288 modem owners will have the
option of upgrading their modems the 33,600 bps standard. [...]
stuff cut out
Most V.34 SupraFAXModem owners will also be able to upgrade the modem through
a
flasher utility. However, some will require a $40 hardware upgrade. A program
will be available for download to determine which upgrade path you will need
to
take.

The flash works in the about revision and if you look at the 201 code you'll
see what it says.

These are excerpts from 3 messages I found in a quick scan of my
database. I'm sure there were a lot more I deleted after reading.
the common thread is that some NOT ALL 288 modems can be upgraded
to 33.6 with a flash...
The modem MUST have the RC288DPi Rev 05BA datapump for this to work
ATI3 will tell you if you have this datapump.
