RS> MB>Well to each his own...I just refuse to feed the information
RS> monolyth that
RS> >obviously has its interest, and not MY interest at heart.
RS>
RS> Their interest is your interest. If they get more info on you,
RS> they can
RS> tailor their service and products better to suit your needs.
Disagree here totally..there isn't a corporation who wants anything but my
$$, and elaborate social engineering allows them to obtain and present
information, many times in context and not in my interest. When this
information is exchanged, many times errors from the info obtained, allows a
diffenent and totally incorrect "assumption" to be drawn. Those entering
information are slobs like RS employees, who, paid minimum, don't give a
rat's porthole what they enter, or are uneducated in WHAT to collect and what
comprimised a customer's privacy.
RS> >and your family might become the target of a hit team like
RS> Randy
RS> >Weaver was....
RS>
RS> You're reaching here. The government couldn't care less about
RS> you and
RS> me.
RS>
Of course. but you never know what nefarious information could be derived
from innocent transactions. You buy a LOT of batteries, and someone has you
on their
mailing list for gun equipment or reloading supplies, and with the political
climate today, even this innocent conjunction, when lists are compared, might
lead to political harassment or worse. You do NOT want to trust "them" to
make the right decision, we've had too many people killed because of
erronious info.
Is youre life worth a mistake? I don't think so...no matter HOW remote the
possibility.
RS> Radio Shack, the gestapo? Hehe! Paranoia big time here!
Not RS per-se, the information gathering monolyth..
RS> >the mail, and worse, every scam telemarketer calling on the
RS> phone...
RS>
RS> I did and have never won squat! It is a gimmick, no one really
RS> wins
RS> except them. If you subscribe to magazines, you could probably do
RS> better to just get one of those cards and mail it in.
You'd do better to contact the magazine and pay the list price. Pub
clearinghouse is one of the more notorious list selers, they get them into
the hands of every scam telemarketing opperation in the US. Some sound good,
like the "free Hawian vacation..it's free allright, YOU have to get
there...of course THEY will provide a list of travel agents who will charge
you exhorbitant prices to get there...when or IF you actually get there, and
don't use their services, all your paperwork mysteriously gets lost, and YOU
wind up paying a lot of $$ out of pocket...come on...there is NO free
nch...
Theyre social engineering scum. Period..and I refuse to assist them, their
list collectors, and the profitability of such scam operations in any
way..call it my protest..its valid.
RS> Neither do I but whether you give info or not to vendors, you'll
RS> still
RS> get the calls at all hours of the day and night. You can't win
RS> there.
Indeed, some boiler rooms just ramdom dial, like the geek that called a
friend for 'basement waterproofing'...he said, "sure come out here and look
at it",
they drove 45 miles to find he lives on a one story building, with no
basement.
On the phone, they said they "knew" he had problems...uh huh...right...not
too original is it?
RS> Wish it was that easy. I pay taxes and can't even get the town to
RS> re-pave my street with huge pot holes. Mayor answered one of my
RS> letters
RS> saying that they were going to replace the street sign on the
RS> corner and
RS> it never happened. Where's my peace-my car bounces down the
RS> street each
RS> time I drive out of my driveway.
Youre approaching it from the wrong position..politicians don't give a squat
about an irate citizen complaining about potholes..you need to get to their
sense of FEAR..."well, I complained about potholes many times, and nothing
was done..not theyre SO bad, that I fear a car will chuck a piece of concrete
into my yard, killing my baby in it's playpen"... put it to them as a "risk
assessment" situation. Sometimes calling the risk management officer will get
a lot faster results because he/she realized the city's liability since they
were officially informed in writing beforehand. Of course CYA by making an
official report at the police dept, or city hall, and get a reference number
for the compaint. they KNOW you are serious then...Ive got buildings
demolished this way, when I reported that since the city owned them, and the
derelict structures will cause me damage if they burn or collapse will result
in a major lawsuit...they grease the squeaking wheel REAL fast....
I know of no other technique to get derilict munincipal employees to do their
jobs....they simply don't give a squat...theyre fat, happy, and paid off,
only fear will get their attention...
fear of lawsuit, fear of un-election, fear of bad publicity...the very worst
words a politico can hear, is: "The taxpayer's union people want a statement
of position on this matter". Make your cause seem bigger than it is, a few
names and phonecalls with the same complaint will get their attention, and
the dammed well will pick up the phone and talk to you the NEXT time too..of
course, tape all conversations with them..theyre liars of the first class.
Trust no one in government...theyre greasy, slippery, and working for
themselves, NOT you...
Have fun...I do...
