-> my name is larry boughton. I'm a paramedic in new york state and i h -> been in the e.m.s. since 1991. i would like to ask this question. w -> do every state in the u.s.a. have different protocals for treating pt -> for medical and trauma. there is no difference in the way our bodies -> function from state to state. -> -> --- MjrFIDO 3.25 From what I see, the treatment is ultimately very similar, but the different protocols are because some medical controls allow their EMS services to perform more aggressively or more thouroughly(sp?) than other med. controls. I worked at a place where, as an Intermediate, I could perform beyond my state's basic certification after trained, and could do pretty much all the paramedic procedures except for pushing meds. Then, I went to work at another place, and I can't even start IVs without the paramedics having to ride in the back with the patient to the hospital. Pretty extreme differences. The state gives a basic level to be performed by the EMS professionals, the med control allows you to either stay at that level or go beyond it with further training. It all depends on the med control's physician as to his/her own preferences on what the protocols will turn out as.
