There are arguments for and against the hex extension / default zones per
domain. I don't think that one is better than the other. The most important
thing is that developers agree on one format. BinkleyTerm introduced that
format and it was the reference implementation. Other software that was
developed (long before Binkd was a thing) also implemented BinkleyTerm Style
Outbound as later documented by the FTSC. There is no point in arguing today
that it should be different. It is like it is.
